Demo: IBM Watson Workspace for Marketing

View Comments
As things settle from the IBM World of Watson conference two weeks ago, today I wanted to take the opportunity to share one of the demos that was shown in a breakout session hosted by Rob Ingram, Rishi Vaish and Alan Lepofsky.

The video that demonstrates how IBM Watson Workspace can improve your life as someone who works in marketing. It makes team collaboration easy and saves you time by bringing everything together and summarizing it for you (using some cool Watson services) so you can take action on what really matters.

Additionally the following integrations are shown (thanks to Sapho for building some of these):

  • Google Adwords
  • Marketo
  • SAP
  • Outlook Online (part of Office 365)
  • and more...
Check out the 3 min demo video below:

We'll soon post other videos so stay tuned!

Enjoy!

As Seen in the Masters: Social Business is about Productivity, Innovation and Influence

View Comments
Over the weekend, IBM had a run of ads in print media and on TV with many different spots going throughout the Masters.

The spots were around IBM's 4 big areas: Social, Cloud, Mobile, and Big Data.  It was fun to hear from my friends and family who had seen the spots and mentioned how it was really hard to miss the IBM spots.

The spots highlight customers and scenarios that are being Made with IBM.  If you are not a golfer and want to watch the entire series, check out the IBM channel on YouTube.  Additionally, check out the Made with IBM site for more details and customer stories, such as this one on how Princess Cruises is optimizing their operations with social.

Below, I've included 4 videos that are specifically around social business, powered by IBM's enterprise social collaboration platform,  IBM Connections.

#8 - Workforce productivity

#28 - Crowdsourcing Innovation

#45 - Collaboration made with Social

#65 - Influence made with Social

Synthesio Shows Social Media Monitoring Integrated with IBM Connections

View Comments
IBM Connect 2014 is now 11 days away and the announcements keep pouring in! Today, I wanted to share a demo video from Synthesio, a social media monitoring and analytics company.

In their blog last week, Synthesio announced their integration with IBM Connections, IBM's social collaboration platform.

With this integration, IBM Connections users:
  • have access to actionable social media data in real-time and the power to act on it.
  • can leverage social media data directly from their existing Connections workflow.
  • can push posts to colleagues in IBM Connections for follow up (e.g. in case of a customer praise or complaint)
  • can save time by giving influencers the attention they deserve in real-time – without memorizing another login, without learning any new software, and without interrupting their workflow. All within the IBM Connections platform.
This integration is very powerful and gives you the ability to monitor all online networks (e.g. Twitter, Facebook, etc) for important posts about every selected aspect of your brand. And then, capture and route those messages automatically to the key people in relevant departments (customer service, marketing, product development, HR, PR, etc.)

Check out the 3 minute demo below:

If you haven't registered yet, go ahead and register today for IBM Connect 2014. See you there!

Dynamic Signal Helps Amplify Your Brand Using IBM Connections

The news from IBM Connect 2013 just keep coming in. As I've shared in the past, one of the highlights of the #IBMConnect conference was the App Dev Throwdown where many new partners got to showcase their integration with IBM Connections.

Dynamic Signal, an employee marketing solution allows you to reward employees for their participation in external social networks like Facebook. Let's say, for example, that your company is launching a new product and you want to get your employees to help you promote it. Dynamic Signal provides an interface to create a campaign and track employee participation in it. Employees can promote company news from IBM Connections directly with Google+, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and more!!

This solution is a perfect combination of social business and social media and takes IBM Connections to the next level!

IBM Connect 2013: Media Coverage Highlights

View Comments

Just like last year, I am now back home (after a 2 week vacation) and it's time to catch up with my feed reader and all the press coverage that was generated by #ibmconnect or IBM Connect 2013. It's interesting to compare the media coverage that was generated this year vs 2012. There's definitely a big focus on enterprise integration and c-level adoption.

So here's a couple of the highlights based on what I've found so far. I haven't included everything (I've skipped what seemed to be duplicates) but hopefully it helps you find things that you may have missed.

Yay, I'm going to SXSW 2012 !

View Comments

imageEarlier this year, I asked that you go out and vote for the various sessions we had submitted. Yesterday, more sessions were announced for SXSW 2012 and I was happy to see that the proposal Suzanne Livingston and I submitted was accepted.

Our session is titled Enterprise Social Media Trends: Are We There Yet? . Here's the abstract we submitted:

Social media has gone mainstream! But it's not everywhere yet. In this session, we'll explore case studies that showcase the trends and best practices of using social media today, the ROI, and the impact on your customers, employees, and entire supply chain. We'll dive into the core capabilities of a social business and review how organizations are leveraging new capabilities to deliver bottom-line results. This session will provide a look into how businesses are utilizing social technologies to respond faster to opportunities, generate new ideas, accelerate innovation, and beat their competitors. We'll look into the technologies that enable this growing form of enterprise collaboration that is built on the new generation of information sharing. We'll close this out with five top trends and thoughts about where this is heading.

So once Lotusphere 2012 #ls12 is done, I'll come back home for a few weeks and then off to Austin.

I've been to Austin a couple of times to visit customers and the IBM offices and it's a great city. However, I've never had the opportunity to go to SXSW. Based on what I've read and heard, it's an awesome conference and I feel lucky to have the opportunity to go there and not only present, but also go to sessions put together by leaders of the mobile & social media industry.

For example, in the newly accepted sessions, I see speakers from companies like Twitter, Foursquare, Paypal, Pageonce, Popular Mechanics, etc.

If you are going to SXSW 2012, I hope to see you there!

IBM Once Again Leader In Social Software Platforms

View Comments

IDC, for the second year in a row, has named IBM the world wide leader in social software platforms based on market share. IBM was also the world wide leader in social software platforms in IDC's 2010 report.

The release of the report is very timely as the Enterprise 2.0 Boston Conference kicks off today. In this year's report, IDC looks at the social software market for the 2008-2010 period. In the report, you'll find revenue and market share for each of the vendors listed.

IDC reports that the worldwide revenue for social software platforms was more than $500 million in 2010. This represents an almost 32% growth from last year. IDC also mentions that they expect the market to grow to $2 billion worldwide by 2014.

It's also worth noting that Microsoft is not included in this year's list. Microsoft wasn't included in last year's list. This further validates that SharePoint is not an Enterprise 2.0 platform (unless of course you can find the budget to spend $6-$9 on services/customization for each $1 you spend on a SharePoint license).

You can learn more about what IBM is doing at the Enterprise 2.0 Conference in Boston here. The keynotes will also be broadcasted live today and tomorrow here.

Article first published as IDC Names IBM Worldwide Marketshare Leader in Social Software Platforms on Technorati.

How To Add Google +1 Button to Blogger

View Comments

I just caught the news about Google making available the new +1 Button.

If you want to understand the value of the Google +1 button, here's a quick video that Google put together:

As an end user, I'm still not sure about the value, but as a content publisher it might help my search rankings and make my content more discoverable so I figure I would add it to Connections and my Blogger blogs. (more on Connections in a follow-up post).

Adding the Google +1 button to Blogger is pretty easy. Once you follow these instructions, it'll show up on your page similar to this:

Here's how you get it done:

  1. Go to Blogger.com
  2. Log in with your account if you haven't yet
  3. On your Dashboard, click the Design link for your blog you want to modify
  4. Near the top of the page click on Edit HTML
  5. Now on top of the text box, click the Expand Widget Templates checkbox
  6. Find the line that contains </body>
  7. Just before that tag, add the following code:

    <script src='http://apis.google.com/js/plusone.js' type='text/javascript'/>

  8. Now search for post-body and you should find something like this:

    <div class='post-body entry-content'>

  9. Immediately after that line, add the following code:

    <div class='post_share social-media'>

    <div class='wdt_button'>

    <g:plusone expr:href='data:post.url'/>
    </div>

    </div>
  10. Now look for .footer-outer { and you should find something like this:

    .footer-outer {

    color:$(footer.text.color);

    background: $(footer.background);

    ...

  11. Just before that line add the following:

    /* Social share styles

    ----------------------------------------------- */

    .social-media {

    width: 90px;

    }

    .post_share {

    float:left;

    }

    .post_share .wdt_button {

    clear:left;

    margin:0;

    }

    .wdt_button {

    padding:5px;

    }

  12. Click Save Template and that should do it.

To see how to add the Twitter and Facebook Like buttons to your Blogger blog, see this post.

Enjoy!

Estudio Sobre Redes Sociales en Puerto Rico

View Comments

The Future of Marketing: Hype or Business Driver in 2011?

View Comments

This is my last post until next week when I'll be live blogging from Lotusphere 2011 (#ls11). I did wanted to bring this to your attention. On Tuesday we made available a new video on our site where the co-founder of ThoughtLead, Sam Rosen, sits down with the Suzanne Livingston, Sr. Product Manager for Connections, to talk about how to make externally-facing customer communities work.

Sam restricts Suzanne to only 2 minute answers, so the video moves pretty quickly.

She answers many important questions, including:

  • Are customer communities simply hype, or will they actually help my company develop our competitive advantage?
  • Do I need a dedicated "social media team" for the community, or should the work be shared throughout my organization?
  • How to (soft) sell to your customers through your online community--without turning off your audience?
  • How to ensure your customer community continues to thrive and serves your business goals over time?
  • How to turn negative product feedback into opportunities for business growth and customer loyalty?
  • How to dramatically increase the number of new product ideas your organization can generate?
  • Case studies of companies successfully using customer communities to lower costs and drive profits
  • How to convince the C-suite to start a community?

So if you are responsible for the social media strategy of your organization, go on and check out this great video interview. I'm sure you are going to get some great info to use as you build your social media strategy.

Recap of the Lotus Connections 3.0 Launch

View Comments

Yesterday's announcement of Lotus Connections 3.0 was received very well. People seemed to be very excited and tons of news outlets picked up the news.

Using Storify (thanks to a recommendation from Mitch Cohen) I was able to compile some of the tweets. I want to emphasize "some"! There were tons and tons of tweets and RT's. What I've done is compiled the tweets up on the top and then links to the various news sites where the story was published down at the bottom.

This is my first time using Storify. What do you think? Very cool, huh?

Getting Started with Social Media

View Comments

Are you interested in getting your feet wet with Social Media? IBM has created a page solely dedicated to educating businesses on how to get started with social media.

The Getting Started with Social Media page is aimed at IBM Business Partners and provides various guides to help partners better understand how to use this new medium, decide if and how to use it, and how to use key tools to get the most value out of it.

Here's what you will find there:

Because this is targeted for IBM Business Partners, you do need an account with PartnerWorld. So all of you business partners that are reading this, go ahead and download these guides today.

Technorati has also picked this up and it's available here. It's encouraging to see that Technorati is asking other companies to imitate what IBM is doing:

[...] it's great to see companies being more proactive and aggressive with their social media use. Here's hoping other large corporations--and small ones--follow IBM's lead.

The author of the Technorati article, however, is not aware of all the great things that IBM is doing in the social space. Hopefully, he posts a follow up.

October is the month for Lotus Knows Bus Tour

View Comments

It's almost October and that means it's tour time! Here's a map of the cities that the Lotus Knows Tour Bus will be visiting during this month. It looks like I'll get to see it first when it goes to the LA area which is the same week I'll be at the Portal conference in nearby San Diego.

View Lotus Knows bus in a larger map

Shortly after I get to check out the bus in Los Angeles, the bus heads to the Las Vegas. And as Bilal points out, it looks like it's going to show up at the Sharepoint conference. That sounds fun!!! Can't wait to see/hear the reaction from the crowds there.

So plan now and set a date with the Lotus Knows Tour Bus. For a complete listing of cities and dates, click here.
